Mapleton’s Daisy and Brownie Girl Scout Troop 1133, along with Mapleton’s Junior Troop 1144, celebrated the start of another year of Scouting with an Investiture and Rededication Ceremony Nov. 11.
Families and friends gathered at the Mapleton United Baptist Church as 15 girls pledged to be a Girl Scout for the upcoming year. Two Daisy Girl Scouts, Jenna Mountain and Sydney Robichaud, became members for the first time. Other members of Troop 1133 are second-year Daisies: Delaney Alward, Bethany Baker, Madelyn Buzza, Alexis Getchell and Amanda Winslow. First-year Brownies are: Katelyn Amero and Rebecca Rider. Two other second-year Daisies that were unable to attend the ceremony were Paige Trask and Brooke Trask. Troop 1133 is led by Jennifer Buzza and Nancy Winslow.
Junior Girl Scouts from Mapleton’s Troop 1144 taking part in the ceremony were: Jessi Boucher, Tessa Cannon, Ande Kornachuk, Molly Shay, Brianne Savoy and Kalena Washington. Troop 1144 is led by Eva Shay and Lisa Savoy.
Following the Pledge of Allegiance, the Junior Girl Scouts shared a presentation about the Girl Scout World Trefoil Pin. Each Scout explained a part of the pin, describing the symbols, colors, and shapes along with their meanings. As the girls shared their individual parts, they held up drawings they had each created.
All Girl Scouts remained on stage and recited the Girl Scout Promise, and then entertained the audience with the “Juliette Gordon Low Action Story.” Juliette Gordon Low was the founder of Girl Scouting and as her story was read, the girls acted out parts of the story with motions, phrases and songs.
Troop 1133 began the Investiture and Rededication Ceremony with each Daisy and Brownie reciting one part of the Girl Scout Law. As they took turns saying their part of the law, they lit a (battery-operated) candle. A brief description of each part of the law was read by the leaders.
The Daisies and Brownies were called to the front, one at a time, to greet each leader with the Girl Scout handshake and receive their individual awards earned to date. Those awards included a spring registration patch, “Be a reader” patch, Investiture (for new members) or Rededication (for returning members) patch, Girl Scout Knowledge patch (for Daisies) and Girl Scout Ways Try-It (for Brownies). The girls that participated in the fall product sales were also recognized for those awards earned. Some earned patches, bracelets, necklaces, stuffed animals, flashlights, tote bags, and T-shirts. First-time Daisy, Jenna Mountain was pinned with her official Daisy membership pin by her grandmother, Patricia Mountain, and first-time Daisy, Sydney Robichaud was pinned by her older sister and Cadette Girl Scout Bailee Robichaud. Both girls also received their Promise Center for learning the Girl Scout Promise, their first petal for their uniform, “friendly and helpful” and a Daisy beginning certificate signed by their leaders.
Eva Shay presented her Junior Troop with their awards, including their troop crests, (a red rose, voted on by the girls), investiture patches and World Trefoil Pins.
The evening concluded with all the girls from both troops singing the Girl Scout version of “He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands” – complete with silly, energetic hand motions! A fun way to end the ceremony!
