The Mapleton Elementary School is collecting receipts from Hannaford stores for one more week! Hannaford collects receipts at the front of their stores for specific schools and towns. Employees tally those receipts and based on the purchases, sends checks to those schools! The deadline for Mapleton is Dec. 6. Store receipts can also be sent to school with students prior to the deadline. Thank you for your support!

Our Apologies
The Mapleton Daze Committee was scheduled to deliver its community birthday calendars earlier this month. Unfortunately, they were unable to do so due to a delay in the calendars’ printing. The Committee expects to receive the calendars soon, and a new day and time will be announced for deliveries. The Committee sincerely apologizes for any inconvenience this may have caused and thanks all members of the community for their continued support!
Little Known Holidays
According to holidayinsights.com, a blog in 2002 declared the day after Thanksgiving, “You’re Welcome Day.” The idea was to encourage people to simply say, “You’re welcome.” The blogger’s motivation was to help circulate manners back into society.
On Thanksgiving Day we say “thanks” for the blessings that we have been given. So, doesn’t it seem natural, that “You’re Welcome” immediately follows a thank you?
Participating in this day can happen anywhere that you are, and anywhere that you go today. Remember to say “thank you,” even for the little things. When you do say “thank you” (with a smile), always be sincere. I would like to thank you all who read and submit news for this column! (This is where you say, “You’re welcome!”).
Castle Hill Grange Hall News
The Castle Hill Grange Hall Preservation Society held its last meeting for the year Nov. 10, postponed from Oct. 27. The board of directors meeting was held at 6:30 p.m. Christine McPherson was voted in to replace Joyce Boynton as a board member. All officers will remain the same. The Society discussed fund-raising ideas including the annual candy bar sale through the winter, a spring dinner, “bakeless” bake sale, and a membership drive.
The hall is closed from November until May. It is available to rent from May 1-Nov. 1. We are also in need of working members. Just one hour or less a month for 10 months can help the Society keep the hall running. The hall is used for town meetings and voting and can also be rented for reunions, birthday and anniversary parties. Please consider helping the Society in 2010.
For all who helped the Society in 2009, in the way of time, talents, and support, please accept a very sincere “thank you” from the members of the Castle Hill Grange Preservation Society.
Mapleton United Methodist Church Luncheon
The United Methodist Church luncheon will be held Friday, Nov. 27 at 11:30 a.m. All are welcome to attend.

KIDS HELPING KIDS – Children from the Mapleton United Methodist Church Sunday School packed 20 shoeboxes with gifts for Operation Christmas Child, a project which delivers gifts to children around the world. Operation Christmas Child is a project of Samaritan’s Purse, the ministry led by Franklin Graham, son of the Rev. Billy Graham. Helping to pack the shoeboxes were, from left: Zack Breton, Karson Eaton, Brittany McBurnie, Andrew Ballerstein, Danielle McBurnie, Frank Nunez, Cristian Nunez and Saul Nunez. Last month, the Sunday School children collected over $170 for UNICEF.

DEBBIE’S DAYCARE in Castle Hill held its annual Halloween party recently. Games were played with the help of Heather Nadeau, who is a former member of the daycare. Snacks were served and treat bags were handed out. The “famous” donut on a string game was the usual highlight of the party. “Grammy G.” brought her homemade mittens to give to all of the children.
