DAPHENE JOYCE BREWER HOYT MARS HILL – Daphene Joyce Brewer Hoyt, 87, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Aroostook Health Center in Mars Hill. She was born on August 11, 1929 in E. Plantation, the daughter of Phineas Sylvester Brewer, Sr. and Laura Blanch (Lyons) Brewer.
Daphene was a member of the First Free Baptist Church of Blaine for 57 years. She was the Sunday School Treasurer there for many of those years. Mom was a stay at home mom throughout our childhood. She was able to take care of her nieces and nephew (Jeannie, Tammy, Paul, and Jamie) as well during that time. Aunt Daphene will always hold a special place in their hearts and memories.
Mom always worked hard to provide for her family. She worked at Converse Shoe in Presque Isle, in the fields for harvest and in the potato house during the winter and spring months. She always made sure that we were well taken care of, even if it meant that she went without. She made sure that we had our piano lessons each week with Mrs. Hanson. Through Mom and Dad’s sacrifice, we have played at many churches and events through the years. She also loved working outdoors in her gardens; sewing and creating beautiful crochet table cloths and doilies that we will cherish.
She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands; Pauline and Richard Porter of Blaine and Ruth and Richard Clockedile of Alfred, ME, a brother, Phineas “Boger” and Shirley Brewer, Jr. of Mars Hill, and a sister Dorcas and Richard Mahan of Blaine, two sister in laws, Priscilla Lenentine of Lodi, WI and Clara Endres of Lakeland, FL. Maw will be greatly missed by her four grandchildren; Tracey Milliard and her husband Steven, LauraLee Hopkins and her husband Matthew of Blaine, Joshua Clockedile and his fiancée, Erica Scott, Ian Clockedile and his fiancée Katie Emerson of Alfred, ME. Maw will also be greatly missed by her great grandchildren; Courtney, Logan, Bailee, Emilee, Will, Tucker and Maizy and one great great grandchild, Charleigh as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Daphene was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Roy Edward Hoyt, her sister, Pauline (Doreen) Drummond and her brother, Norman Brewer.
We would like to thank the staff of the Aroostook Health Center for their care and support of Mom for the past 5 years. It isn’t an easy job that you do. Thank you also for your thoughtful care of our family as we spent our final moments with her.
A graveside service will be held 3pm, May 27, 2017 at Tapley Cemetery with Rev. Gardner Smith, officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Daphene’s memory to the First Free Baptist Church Memorial Fund, PO Box 109, Blaine, ME 04734 or the Aroostook Health Center Residence Activities Fund, PO Box 410, Mars Hill, ME 04758.
