PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Drivers can expect a section of outer State Street to be shut down for the summer beginning May 1.
As part of the new Presque Isle bypass construction in progress between Route 167 and the Conant Road, a new bridge will be constructed for State Street traffic crossing over the new bypass.
The estimated cost of this portion of the bypass project is $7.9 million.
The construction of the bridge allows for a six-month closure of State Street between the intersection of Route 167 and State Street and the intersection of Centerline Road and State Street, according to Drew Blier project manager of Ed Pelletier and Sons Company.
Starting May 1 State Street will be closed from Centerline Road to Route 167 until October 31 for the construction of the new bridge. Only local homeowners will be allowed to access their driveways from a side of the closure.
Blier said the project will help with truck traffic in route to and from McCain Foods and Huber Engineered Woods, both manufacturers based in Easton.
Madawaska’s Ed Pelletier and Sons Company in conjunction with the Maine Department of Transportation are managing the construction project.
