102 Years Ago – April 22, 1915
Town Baseball League organized — The Town Baseball League for 1915 was organized at a well attended meeting held in the Mooseleuk Club Rooms, with President Franklin in the chair.
The following officers were elected: honorary president, Hon. T.H. Phair; president, M.B. Hayford; vice president, W. Thompson; secretary, Howard Smith; treasurer, Albert A. Joy. There were four teams in the league; namely: Maysville, Mooseleuk Club, High School, and a team from the newly formed Calumet Club, or a town team.
Fair Premium List — Mr. E.L. Guiou, who canvassed for advertising in the Fair Premium List, was met with good success, people realized that besides helping Presque Isle’s big annual Fair, this was one of the really good mediums for reaching a big circle of readers, very largely among the prosperous farming calls.
75 Years Ago – April 16, 1942
Water System of Utility Company sold — Ralph H. Sprague, trustee and chairman of the Presque Isle Sewer District, was chairman of the committee of the Presque Isle Water District which investigated and purchased the assets of the Presque Isle Water Company for the reported price fo $285,000.
Winslow elected Rotary Club President — Percy R. Winslow was elected by the board of directors of the Rotary Club to succeed Dr. R. A. Graves as president. Robert A. Whatley was named vice president, J. W. Larkin, secretary, Otis B. Steven, treasurer and John C. LeVasseur, sergeant-at-arms.
50 Years Ago – April 19, 1967
Knight wins trophy — Charles Knight, chairman of the St. John-Aroostook RC&D Project, won the Soil Conservationist of the Year Trophy from the Natural Resources Council of Maine at its annual meeting at Augusta. The award was presented by Governor Curtis on behalf of the Council. The recognition was based on Knight’s work as conservation farmer, supervisor of the Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District, chairman of the St. John-Aroostook RC&D Steering Committee, and chairman of the Maine Soil and Water Conservation Committee.
Star-Herald, Fort Review win awards — Two Aroostook County newspapers received awards at the annual Maine Press Association conference. A first prize plaque for the best editorial page and a second prize certificate for the the best news picture in the over 3,000 circulation class were awarded to the Star-Herald following a banquet in Augusta. The Review received a special award for public service, presented to Editor Kingdon Harvey for “keeping alive in the face of public apathy and official inaction” the subject of the two murders in Fort Fairfield in late 1964 and early 1965.

Change of command at Mars Hill oil firm — Officials with Irving Oil Corporation announced a retirement and two promotions at the Mars Hill Oil office: Ray Jones’ retirement after serving over 40 years in various capacities as Mars Hill branch manager; Nancy Beals was named office manager, responsible for the accounts receivable, account payable, payroll, and supervise all day-to-day business activities; and Robert Bell was promoted to service manager, supervising and scheduling of the service department.
Photography conference — Presque Isle photographer Ronald Clark Jr. attended the 31st annual session of the New England Institute of Professional Photography at the Mount Marie Conference Center, Holyoke, Mass. During the week-long training exercise, Clark received professional instruction in various photography skills including lighting, portrait and wedding photography, sales and marketing, and commercial/industrial photography.
