EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick — Edmundston police charged Jessy Bernier, 36, Tuesday, April 18, with possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking as well as breach of engagement, according to police. He will remain in detention until his next court appearance on April 27, for a bail hearing.
Edmundston police arrested Bernier and two others, Friday, April 14, following simultaneous searches at two apartments on Queen Street in Edmundston.
According to an April 19 press release from the police, a 30-year-old woman and a 29-year-old man, were also arrested. The unnamed man and woman were released under conditions and will have to appear in court at a later date. All three are residents of Edmundston.
During the searches, police seized marijuana, a large quantity of methamphetamine and a sum of money.
The charges against Bernier came a day before Maine Drug Enforcement Agency technicians collected evidence of an alleged meth lab at a home in Madawaska. Police have charged Carl and Casie Thibeault, who were living at the home, with drug trafficking charges related to that investigation.
Edmundston Police Inspector Alain Lang said via telephone Wednesday he was unaware of anny connection between the arrests in Edmundston and Madawaska.
