ASHLAND, Maine — The Community Library is giving baseball-loving kids and their parents a nudge to get reading this summer: a free ticket to a Seadogs game in Portland.
As part of a community program offered by the Portland Seadogs, Ashland-area youngsters who read three age-appropriate books will be able to get a voucher for a free ticket to a Seadogs game this summer.
“It’s great for us, because we’ve had a hard time getting kids to read,” said Cindy Morton, the Ashland librarian. “This looks like a good incentive for the summer.”
Every kid that is interested and completes the reading challenge will be able to get a voucher for a ticket, and parents can order tickets for themselves as well through the program, Morton said. General admission tickets start in the range of $9.
This is the first time that the Ashland Community Library has participated in the program with the Seadogs. Other area libraries have participated in the past, including Presque Isle’s Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library, which will also be offering the program this year.
