CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou Fire and Ambulance responded to a machine shop fire on 553 Madawaska Road at roughly 1:30 p.m., April 19.
Caribou received assistance from Limestone, Fort Fairfield, Presque Isle and North Lakes Fire and Rescue. This is the third fire Caribou has fought this week, with the last two occurring Monday on the Van Buren Road, and Raymond says the crew was able to shut the machine shop doors and ultimately subdue the fire very quickly.
“There was a lot of damage inside the shop,” Raymond said. “The fire actually burned the whole back corner of the shop. There was a tractor trailer truck inside and they were able to drive it through the door.”
While Raymond says the department is still determining the extent of damage, he estimates that it is between $50,000 and $60,000.
The machine shop, owned by G.E. Farms LLC, a company registered in Glen Edgecomb’s name, was insured.
Caribou Fire Captain Danny Raymond says the fire was caused by an electrical short from a workbench in the garage.
