To the editor:
I would like to take this opportunity to say a few words about the medical care received during a recent illness I suffered. I was transported by ambulance from my home to the ER at Houlton Regional Hospital about a month ago on two separate occasions.
Both times I was admitted as an inpatient for further treatment. I spent a total of more than a couple weeks as a patient, both, in the ICU and consequently on a step-down unit.
The level of care that I received far surpassed my expectations. I would like to extend a special thank you to the Oakfield Fire Department for their quick response and service, to Houlton Regional Hospital doctors, nurses and staff for their professionalism and expertise, and to the VNA and Kelly for my continued home care, and to family and friends. Your skills, compassion, empathy and kindness have not gone unnoticed and are very much appreciated.
This is the first time in my almost 91 years that I have ever needed any treatment of this kind. It was comforting to know that during such a precarious and unnerving time was in the best of hands. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
