MASARDIS, Maine – A two-vehicle crash on Main Street sent the driver of one automobile to the hospital with serious injuries Friday night.
According to Sgt. David McPherson of the Maine State Police, the crash occurred at approximately 6 p.m. in this community located south of Ashland along Route 11. Amanda Stevens, 19, of Masardis was reportedly traveling southbound when she attempted to turn left onto School Street. The truck driver traveling behind her attempted to pass Steven’s vehicle, striking it broadside.
“Craig Corey, 41, of Sherman was behind Stevens and attempted to pass her in a no-passing zone. Corey was operating a 1999 Freightliner loaded with potash. Stevens was struck broadside in her 1998 Dodge Neon. She sustained severe injuries as the result of the crash,” said McPherson.
Stevens was transported by ambulance to The Aroostook Medical Center and then flown to Bangor for treatment at Eastern Maine Medical Center. No information has been released on her condition.
Corey was reportedly uninjured in the incident.
A state police accident reconstruction team worked throughout the evening at the scene of the crash.
The truck driver is being charged in connection with the accident.
“Corey was charged with an aggravated weight violation and illegal passing, with more charges likely,” said McPherson.
