Susan Melinda (Coffey) Commons

THE VILLAGES, FL – Susan Melinda (Coffey) Commons, 68, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great grandmother went to be with the Lord on April 11, 2017 after a 4-year battle with breast cancer.

She was born on September 22, 1948 in Presque Isle, Maine. She graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1966 and continued her education at Mr. Bernard’s School of Hair Fashion in Lewiston, Maine in 1967 becoming a licensed cosmetologist. After moving to Florida in 1987, she worked as a Team Lead 3 at Target in Leesburg and The Villages, FL for 20 years.
Susan was the daughter of the late Carlton G. and Laura Getchell Coffey. Susan is survived by her husband of 50 years, Harry A. Commons; sister Gayle (Roger) Hoffses; two daughters Bernadette Taylor and Heather (Nathan) Owen and a son-in-law, Richard Taylor; 7 grandchildren Lindsay (Michael) Redding, Brittany Figlow, Kaitlyn (Robert) Williams, Brianna Owen, Mason Owen, Riley Owen, and Harlan Owen; great grandchildren Blakely Williams and Emma Taylor; nieces Lauri Buck, Lisa Scovil, and Kim Dyer. She proceeded in death by her sister Carol Cullins and her first born grandson Taylor Scanlin.
Susan enjoyed showing her ’53 GMC truck at car shows throughout the state of Florida. She and her husband traveled the US camping in various states with her companion dog Kinzie. They were part-time residents at International RV Park Campground in Daytona, FL. Susan was loved by everyone she came in contact with. She will be missed dearly by all that knew her. At Susan’s request, there no services but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor be made to The American Cancer Society or The Villages Cornerstone Hospice.
