Libby, Gary, 70, died April 12, 2007 at Masardis. Arrangements are in the care of Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, Ashland.
Masardis – Gary Libby, 70, went to his heavenly home April 12, 2007 at his Masardis residence. He was the only son of Elmont and Gladys (Hume) Libby. Gary was born April 28, 1936 in Mapleton. He moved with his family to Masardis at age 13.
He married Prudence Flewelling in 1955 and raised five children. Gary was a hard worker, spending many years working in the logging, farming and trucking businesses. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. (He shot his first deer at age 13). In 1970, Gary gave his life to Christ and became an active member of the Masardis Pentecostal Church, which he attended with his family for many years. In later years he devoted much of his time at home with a road side potato farm and became a faithful supporter of Soul Harbor Ministries in Corinth, Me. He had friends and customers who would faithfully visit late each summer and early autumn to purchase a variety of specialty potatoes and of course, spend time catching up on the year’s activities. He loved visits with friends and passersby talking about dog sledding, fishing, shuffle board and winter trips out of state.
He is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Prudence (Flewelling) Libby of Masardis; five children: Gordon & Derla Libby of Miami, FL; Marianne Cobb of Masardis; Calvin and Laura (Libby) Hafford also of Masardis; Scott & Polly Libby of Ashland; Kevin & Peggy (Libby) Morton also of Ashland; one brother-in-law, Donald Edward Flewelling of Masardis; sixteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one nephew.
A funeral service was held Ashland Advent Christian Church on Saturday, Apr. 14 with the Rev. Andy Derier officiating. Interment will be at the Masardis Municipal Cemetery later this spring. Those who wish may contribute in his memory to the Souls Harbor Ministries, P. O. Box 275, Corinth, ME 04427 or Missions Trip New Zealand (that his granddaughter Sarah Morton is participating in this summer) with checks payable to the Ashland Advent Christian Church stipulating Missions Trip 2007.
