College student plans ice cream stand

MARS HILL, Maine — Dayna Collins always thought her hometown needed a summer ice cream stand and this year she is starting one.

Collins, a Mars Hill native studying business at Husson University in Bangor, is creating her own job during time off from college in summer.

On Friday, May 12, she is opening the Inside Scoops at 122 Main Street, across from the former fire station.

Serving up Gifford’s Ice Cream along with burgers and fries from a mini-barn, Collins said she hopes the small eatery will be a good place to gather in Mars Hill during the summer, and also a good job for her.

“I got the idea last summer. We don’t really have an ice cream place in town in Mars Hill,” Collins said.

Collins, whose favorite flavor is mint chocolate chip, will be the main employee of the operation and expects to be open from May into September.
