The weather cooperated Thursday, Friday and Saturday, resulting in many games being played by local baseball and softball squads.
Softball
Hodgdon 16, Katahdin 13 — At Hodgdon Saturday, Kendra Gresko singled five times to lead the Hawks past Katahdin of Stacyville. Hawk Megan Russell contributed three singles and a double, while Taylor Desrosiers and Kora Lambert each tripled and singled twice and Jordyn McKissick doubled and had two singles.
For Katahdin, Georgia Landry tripled, doubled and had a pair of base hits, while Kelsey Hamm and Lily Cullen each produced two singles and a double and Bailee Moody-Kay chipped in with three singles singles.
Desrosiers pitched the win for the Hawks, scattering 13 runs (10 earned) on 24 hits and three walks, with two strikeouts. Cullen took the loss for the Cougars allowing 16 runs on 23 hits and four walks, with one strikeout.
Mattanawcook Academy 11, Houlton 10 — At Lincoln Saturday, Houlton’s Tyra Gentle singled twice and drove in a run, while Emma Peterson and Tessa Solomon also hit two singles for the Shires. Houlton led 8-1 after two innings, but the Lynx rallied for the win as Katey Tolman belted a grand slam and Madison Page doubled and scored for Mattanawcook (4-0).
Foxcroft 8, Presque Isle 1 and Foxcroft 10, Presque Isle 0 — In a Saturday doubleheader played at Dover-Foxcroft, the Ponies turned in a pair of impressive performances for the sweep. Mckenzie Beaudry struck out 16 Wildcat batters in the first game and PI was unable to get its offense going throughout the afternoon. Senior Faith Leavitt pitched well in both ends of the twinbill for the Wildcats.
Hermon 17, Caribou 1 and Hermon 13, Caribou 1 — The Hawks swept the doubleheader from the Vikings Saturday. The Vikings were limited to 10 hits in the twinbill and both games were called after five innings due to the run rule. Caribou’s Rachel Soucy and Riley McNeal both doubled in the game one loss, while Maddie Doucette, Emily Adler and Heather DeMerchant all doubled in the nightcap.
Shead 17, East Grand 5 — At Eastport Friday, Holly Preston threw a one-hitter to lead Shead past East Grand. Halle Sullivan paced the Tigerettes with a double and two RBIs and Preston singled twice and drove in two runs.
Mallory Gilman singled for the Vikings.
Hodgdon 17, Ashland 16 — At Hodgdon Friday, in a rain-soaked contest, Jordyn McKissick drove in the game-winning run as the Hawks edged Ashland. Megan Russell laced two singles and two doubles, while Sidney Crane doubled and tripled, and Kora Lambert had a double and two singles.
Hodgdon, which scored 10 runs in the last two innings, collectively had 27 stolen bases.
Camryn Deabay sparked Ashland with two doubles and two singles, Jamie Poulin stroked two doubles and a single and Amber Chasse collected three singles. The Hornets led by seven runs with a big fourth inning rally, but could not hold off the Hawks.
Fort Fairfield 15, Washburn 4 — The Tigers won Friday’s home game convincingly, riding Sara Edgecomb’s complete-game performance on the mound. She and her twin sister, Sadie, combined for six hits and seven RBI. Kayla Tisdale also had three hits for Fort Fairfield.
Carly Bragg and Macey Barker were repeat hitters for the Beavers.
Houlton 22, Caribou 5 — On Thursday at Caribou, Elizabeth Ward was the offensive leader with five hits, including a pair of doubles, as the Shires prevailed. Tessa Soloman and Tyra Gentle notched three hits each to back the pitching of Mikayla Fitzpatrick, who struck out five Viking batters.
Maddie Doucette had three singles for Caribou. Rachel Soucy suffered the pitching loss but finished with seven strikeouts.
Fort Fairfield 18, Central Aroostook 16 — The Tigers’ Emily Everitt roped a run-scoring triple in the top of the seventh inning, breaking a tie and lifting her team to the win in Mars Hill Thursday.
Makaila Buck also tripled for Fort Fairfield, while Breanne Bradbury had five hits, including a homer, to pace the Panther offense.
Baseball
Katahdin 8, Hodgdon 5 — At Hodgdon Saturday, the Cougars rallied from 4-1 deficit to secure the win in extra innings. Cooper Drew collected three singles and knocked in a run to pace the Cougars (3-0) to victory. Zach Hagan added two singles with two RBIs and Dalton Hartt had two singles and scored three runs.
For Hodgdon (2-1), Dillon Buzzell led the way with two singles and an RBI.
Rig Otero picked up the win, tossing two and a third innings of relief, allowing one earned run on one hit and four walks, with one strikeout. Brody Guiggey pitched 5.2 innings allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and six walks, with eight strikeouts.
Hawk Ben Tuttle tossed five strong innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks, with 12 strikeouts. Buzzell, Kyle Carver and Jordyn Merritt all pitched in relief for the Hawks.
Houlton 10, Mattanawcook Academy 9 — At Lincoln Saturday, Nick Botting homered in the top of the eighth inning to put Houlton on top for good. Botting also doubled and singled with three RBIs for the Shires.
Houlton plated three runs in the top of seventh inning to force extra innings. Thomas Prescott and Cam Graham contributed two hits apiece and Nick Perfitt pitched four scoreless innings of relief to pick up the win.
The Lynx were led by Jackson Weatherbee, who had three hits and two RBIs. Jordan Hanscom contributed a triple and a single and collected three RBIs. Carter Ward and JJ Clements had two hits apiece.
Presque Isle 2, Foxcroft 0 and Foxcroft 16, Presque Isle 6 — The Wildcats and Ponies divided a twinbill played in Dover-Foxcroft Saturday, with PI winning the first one behind the pitching of RJ Gross (nine strikeouts) and run-scoring hits off the bats of Gross and Jake Kinney. Game two went to the host team, which scored a combined 14 runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Nick Bartlett had a single and a double and drove in two runs for PI.
Hermon 11, Caribou 1 and Hermon 8, Caribou 1 — The Hawks improved to 5-0 after handling the Vikings in both ends of a doubleheader played Saturday in Hermon.
Katahdin 15, Schenck 2 — At East Millinocket Friday, Cooper Drew pitched the Cougars to the win as he allowed just two runs on two hits and one walk, with eight strikeouts. Otero tallied two singles, while Devin McGraw had a double.
Hodgdon 14, Ashland 3 — At Hodgdon Friday, in a rain-soaked game, Ben Tuttle led the Hawks with two singles, two doubles, six RBIs, three stolen bases and three runs scored. Josh Foster scored three runs for the Hawks.
For Ashland, Jesse Wortman singled, stole two bases and scored a run.
Fort Fairfield 16, Washburn 1 — At Fort Fairfield Friday, Ryan Player doubled and singled and drove home four runs, while Isaac Cyr added a pair of singles as the Tigers won for the third time this season without a loss. A nine-run rally in the third inning put the game away.
McCall Turner singled and scored the lone run for the Beavers.
Houlton 7, Caribou 1 — On Thursday in Caribou, the Shires recorded their first victory. Game details were unavailable.
Fort Fairfield 21, Central Aroostook 6 — The Tigers blasted the Panthers Thursday by scoring seven times in the fourth inning and eight in the fifth. Jared Harvey was the winning pitcher and teammate Dylan Jandreau ripped a two-run homer. while Ben Thomas had a second-inning grand slam for CA.
