BLAINE, ME AND MEDFORD, NY – Johann Harry Meyer, 89, passed away on May 1, 2017, at the home of his daughter, Peggy and Fred Blanchard. He was born on Nov. 10, 1918, in Manhattan, NY, the son of William and Ermine Meyer.

He spent his childhood between Manhattan and Medford, NY. He joined the Air Corps as a young man and was trained as an airplane mechanic. He was stationed in Algeria, French Morocco, Tunisia, and obtained rank of Master Sergeant.
He married Margaret (Meg) on May 15th. He worked as an airplane mechanic for Lockheed and together they raised five children; Jim, John, Peter, Peggy and Sue. He spent his leisure time boating in Great South Bay, often camping on Fire Island or the Catskills. He and Meg continued to enjoy camping even when the children were gone from the nest. After retirement, he and Meg spent time visiting their children and grandchildren in Arizona, Maine, and Upstate New York.
He moved to Maine in 2011 and spent the remainder of his life with Peggy, Fred, and his pal Scott.
Johann is survived by Jim and Diane Meyer, Peggy and Fred Blanchard, Sue and John Tebald, Linda Meyer (Peter’s wife), grandchildren; Jennifer, Patrick, Diana, Kristen, Mary, Katie, Tracey, Scott, Ryan, Wade, Sara and Gena and 18 great grandchildren.
He is predeceased by his brother Charles, sister Elenor, son, Peter (2000), John (2005), wife Meg (2006) and granddaughter Lillianna (2004).
The family would like to thank the Hospice crew who helped him through the last months.
A graveside service will be held 11 a.m., May 15, 2017, at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Caribou, with Rev. George McLaughlin, officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
