DYER BROOK, Maine — It was a relatively quiet afternoon for sports action Tuesday as only one local game was played. Wednesday was equally as quiet as the game between Hodgdon and Kathadin, scheduled for Stacyville, was postponed due to poor field conditions.
In Tuesday’s games, Hodgdon’s baseball and softball squads traveled to Southern Aroostook for a rainy afternoon of ball. The Hodgdon softball team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 7-5 victory over the Warriors, who dropped to 1-1 on the year.
Hodgdon’s Sidney Crane blasted a two-run triple in the top of the seventh inning to give the Hawks a three-run lead that held up for the win. Taylor Desrosiers plated two runs with a double and pitched the win.
Kylie Vining led Southern Aroostook with two singles and also had eight strikeouts from inside the pitching circle. The Warriors out-hit Hodgdon 6-5, but also committed three errors compared to two for the Hawks.
For baseball, SACS’ Nolan Altvater blasted a grand slam as the Warriors (1-1) picked up their first win of the year. SACS beat Hodgdon 19-5. Garrett Siltz singled in a pair of runs for SACS. Dillon Buzzell paced Hodgdon (2-2) with an RBI double.
