President Allen Salo of the Mapleton Lions Club announced the club’s 55th annual auction will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Mapleton Lions Hall at 6:30 p.m. following their hot chicken sandwich public supper.
This year’s fundraising auction was kick-started by Buck Construction and Willard Doyen Farms followed by PenAir’s donation of two roundtrip flight from Presque Isle to Boston. Irving Woodlands contributed half-pallets of building lumber and Huber added several sheets of their engineered stranded plywood. Dave Adams , owner of DASCO, added a pallet of wood heating pellets to the auction list.
Members have solicited many other items and services that will be auctioned to support Mapleton Lions Club charities. Auctioneers Ron Leonard and Matt Gregg are ready to direct the bidding.
The auction is the club’s single largest fundraising event. This one evening provides approximately 70 percent of the Lions’ annual income. Members always welcome donations for the support of their projects.
The hot chicken sandwich public supper will be offered by the club from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to come out to enjoy a good meal and support this annual fundraising evening.
Cookies find homes

Mapleton Girl Scouts Troop 1133 recently completed their donation of Girl Scout cookies to the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging’s Meals on Wheels Program and the G.I.F.T. food pantry. In January, Scouts went door-to-door taking cookie orders. Customers had the chance to purchase cookies for themselves and also to donate cookies for clients and users of these two programs.
Both Dottie Sines, director of Meals on Wheels, and Charlene Buzza, Director of G.I.F.T., gladly accepted the large cookie deliveries the girls made to their programs.
Besides experiencing the appreciation of folks in need for the cookies they received, girls who participate in the cookie program learn very important business skills like goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics.
They also learn how their customers’ generosity can be used to help others with significant financial needs. The Mapleton Girl Scouts thank all those customers who purchased or donated cookies, as both the Mapleton Girl Scout Troop 1133 and several neighbors benefited from these purchases.
DAZE Seeks Volunteers
The Mapleton Daze Committee needs volunteers to assure the festival continues into the future.
