EASTON, ME – Avis Gertrude (McNaughton) Hume, 100, passed away on May 5, 2017 at the Presque Isle Nursing Home.
She was born on August 18, 1916 in Easton, the daughter of George and Marada (Hayes) McNaughton.
Avis’s life was devoted to the residents and community of Easton, where she worked for the United States Postal Service for over 40 years. Avis was a long-standing member of the Easton United Methodist Church, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was the current holder of Easton’s Golden Cane for being the oldest resident in town. In addition to her commitment to her community and church, Avis found great joy in spending time with her extended family.
In addition to her parents, Avis was predeceased by her husband, Ernest Hume and six siblings; Clarence, John, Ruby, Rena, Faye and Glenice. She is survived by four nephews; Larry Nichols, Kevin Nichols, Gerald Shaw and Reginald Shaw, a niece, Margaret Mitchell and many great nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held 1:30 pm, May 19, 2017 at Estes Park Cemetery, Easton with Pastor Sue Brown, officiating. Donations may be made in her memory to Transformations Ministries, Inc., PO BOX 4202, Presque Isle, ME 04769. Online condolences may be expressed at www.duncan-graves.com.
