HOULTON, Maine — On Wednesday, May 3, 2017 the Houlton Lodge of Elks hosted a recognition dinner for local National Honor Society students, parents and advisers.
The dinner was held as part of Elks National Youth Week, during which Elks Lodges throughout the country honor the contributions and promising futures that young people provide our communities.
About 150 people from the Houlton, Hodgdon, Greater Houlton Christian Academy, and Katahdin chapters of the NHS enjoyed a complimentary meal of ham and chicken.
At the dinner, Houlton’s Exalted Ruler Mike Hannigan announced that Sarah McGillicuddy of Hodgdon had been awarded an Elks Legacy scholarship and that Kate Newman of Houlton had been awarded an Elks Most Valuable Student scholarship. Newman is one of six recipients of this distinguished award in Maine and one of only 500 nationwide.
