Marilyn (Lewin) Prince

MARILYN (LEWIN) PRINCE HOULTON – Marilyn (Lewin) Prince, 82, wife of the late Ralph Prince, passed away Thursday, May 4, 2017, at Houlton Regional Hospital after a brief illness. She was born September 27, 1934, in Squa Pan, Maine, the daughter of Nathan Lewin and Harriett (Barker) Lewin Holts.
Marilyn grew up in Perham and graduated Salutatorian from Washburn High School. She attended Fisher Junior College in Boston for one year. She then trained at Mass General Hospital to become an X-Ray Technician. While working in Presque Isle, Marilyn met Ralph Prince. They were married September 22, 1956.
They settled in Houlton and raised four children. Marilyn worked at Madigan Hospital, Aroostook General Hospital, and Houlton Regional Hospital. She retired in 1999 from HRH and began a new career of making quilts. Many friends and family were blessed to receive a quilt or wall hanging created by Marilyn. She was very active with the Friends and Needles Quilt Guild, helping with local quilt shows and Project Linus. Marilyn hosted a weekly gathering of special friends that got together to “stitch”. Marilyn also loved working outside tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. Rather than allowing life’s trials and tribulations to frustrate or anger her, Marilyn always had the ability to take everything in stride, remaining even-keeled and looking on the bright side.
We would like to thank the staff at Madigan House for providing heartfelt care for Marilyn. She is survived by three children; Jonathan Prince and his wife Kellie of Taunton, MA, Gretchen Fitzpatrick and her husband Brian, Jennifer Crandall, all of Houlton, a daughter-in-law Kathy Prince of Tuscon, AZ, five grandchildren; Colleen Fitzpatrick, Rebecca Crandall, Alexander Prince, Samuel Fitzpatrick, Clarissa Crandall, two siblings; Myrna Lewin of Florida, Bryant Lewin of California, three sisters-in-law; Sherry Shaw of Presque Isle, MaryAnn Prince of New York, and Leater Prince of New Hampshire, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Gregory Prince, her stepfather, Malcolm Holts, and an infant daughter.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at the Dunn Funeral Home, 11 Park St., Houlton. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2017, at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Houlton, with the Rev. Ginny Urbanek officiating.
