PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The United Way of Aroostook will host its second annual Live United Aroostook Auto Rally on Saturday, June 3, with stops in Houlton, Presque Isle, Caribou and Fort Kent.
The event is a fundraiser for United Way Aroostook. Last year’s event drew more than 75 car aficionados from all over the state, showcasing their cars at four locations along the 120-mile route which spanned the entire county.
The rally, which isn’t a race but more of a rolling car show and progressive meal, will begin at 9:30 a.m. June 3 with registration, light snacks and coffee at York’s of Houlton. Participants will continue to Presque Isle, with a stop at Percy’s Auto Sales for a barbecue lunch at about 11:30 a.m. For an ice cream dessert, the rolling auto show will stop at Burger Boy in Caribou at approximately 1:30 p.m. From there, participants will travel the long route to Fort Kent, arriving at about 4 p.m. for the final stop at the Lions Pavilion, which will include a dinner.
Residents at each stop are encouraged to come out, see the cars, talk with the owners and enjoy the activities at each location.
“The United Way of Aroostook is always looking for new and interesting ways to raise funds that support its partner agencies and programs which are helping people throughout The County,” said Luke Rossignol, UWA board president and Auto Rally participant.
“The inaugural Live United Aroostook Auto Rally was started last year as a fun way to bring together the great and generous people involved in the collector-car hobby, and to highlight the fact that the United Way is involved in helping people of Aroostook County from Houlton to Fort Kent. Last year’s Rally was a great success beyond what we had hoped, and we are very excited about making it an even bigger and better event this year,” he said.
Rossignol added he is looking forward to participating. “I am looking forward to joining in this great event again this year, and I hope to see all the great people and their cars joining with us in this year’s rally. It’s Auto Rally time again in the County, so come join in the fun and help raise money for a great cause.”
The $50 registration fee for participants includes the rally, an event T-shirt, vinyl package for the entrant’s car, food at all four stops, and beautiful scenery along the route. Since this is a fundraiser for United Way, participants are encouraged, but not required, to gather $100 sponsors for their individual car. Those who do will receive an individual sponsor logo to display on their automobile.
