PRESQUE ISLE, ME – Alma “Amy” Bell Brown Hand passed away at Presque Isle Hospital on May 14, 2017, at age 87, with her family by her side.
She was born in Ashland, to Elmer Bell and Myrtle Kinney.
She was a housewife and loving mother. She was educated in local schools. She later worked for Washburn Potato Service Plants. She attended the convent in Caribou.
She was first married to Harvey Brown II. They had two girls and a boy. Then she married Elwood (Butch) Hand. They had a girl and a boy and adopted a girl.
She is survived by three daughters, Deborah St. Thomas, and her husband, Johnny, Ruth Turner, Nancy Hon and her husband, Tommy; foster daughter, Elizabeth Patenaude; two sons, Harvey Brown III and his wife, Judy, Steven Hand; her husband, Elwood (Butch) Hand; and her son-in-law, Charlie Dean. She has 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
Alma was predeceased by sisters, Pauline and Bertha; two brothers, Alfred and Elmer; a daughter, Boneta Dean; and a stepmother, Mattie Bell.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, from 12-1pm at Duncan Graves Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held at 1pm, Rev. Nathan Gardiner officiating. Interment will follow at Southside Cemetery in Mapleton.
