Retired educators group lists summer programs

The Aroostook Retired Educators Association executive board has determined the programs and dates for the 2017 summer meetings.

The June 27 meeting will be held at the Southern Aroostook Agricultural Museum in Littleton and will feature a special music presentation by Hope Chernesky, winner of Northern Star. Lunch will be a turkey dinner with homemade pies for dessert.

The July 25 meeting will be held at Nowland Hall on the campus of the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Lynne McNeal will present the program,l discussing the AARP tax preparation program. The meal will be a buffet luncheon.

The Aug. 22 meeting will be held at NMCC’s Edmunds Conference Center. The program is pending and will be announced at a later date. A buffet luncheon will be served.

The final meeting will be held on September 26 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center. The installation of officers will be conducted, and the Remembrance program will be held. Kevin St. Peter of the Caribou Police Department will discuss Scams and Spams. A buffet luncheon will be served.

All new retirees are encouraged to join AREA. Enjoy renewing old friendships, staying in touch with fellow retired educators, and finding ways to be involved in one of the most important professions in these challenging times. As public education is attacked, the input and involvement of retired teachers is even more important.

Yearly dues are $7. Each meal costs $15. Registration for each meeting starts at 11 a.m. with the luncheon to follow at noon. The business meeting concludes each day’s activities.
