HOULTON, Maine — As the weather slowly starts to heat up and the summer season finally approaches, many start to think about barbeques and flip flops.
At Machias Savings Bank, however, thoughts are about the growing need for food products at the local food pantries.
Summer vacation for a large number of children means going without the meals provided by the school. Machias Savings Bank has partnered with Region Two Community Cupboard, a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week anonymous food pantry located in the Region Two lobby.
Bank officials are asking the greater Houlton community to remember that “Hunger Doesn’t Vacation” and to help fight summer hunger by bringing in nonperishable food donations to the Houlton Machias Savings Branch through the month of June.
