WINTHROP – Terry Despres, 63, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010. He was born in Eagle Lake, on November 6, 1946, the son of Floribert and Eva (Boucher) Despres.
He was predeceased by his parents, and a daughter, Stacey Despres.
Throughout his career as an educational leader, Terry developed and implemented progressive reform that served the interests of communities and their students. A devout Catholic, he served on parish committees and as a lector at St. Mary's of Augusta.
He is survived by his wife, Jayne Despres of Winthrop; children Michelle Despres, Dane Despres and his wife Eling, Cyrus Despres and his wife Margaret, Samantha Michalka, and Angela Michalka; sisters, Anne Hall and her husband Larry, and Patricia Cyr and her husband Greg; grandchildren, Jade, Jasmine and Cole; niece Tara (Cyr) Cusak and nephews Joel Hall, Toby Hall, and Chad Cyr.
Visiting was held Sunday, February 21, from 1-5 p.m. at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta. A mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Western Ave, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in the form of contributions to the Terry Despres Memorial Scholarship, c/o Winthrop Federal Credit Union, 94 Highland Ave, Winthrop ME. 04330.
