To the editor:
The American Red Cross prevents and alleviates human suffering in the face of emergencies by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors. That’s the mission of the Red Cross and I’m inspired by those words each time I read them.
We are truly a volunteer-driven organization.
Our volunteers are amazing and I feel blessed to work with them. They make it possible for the Red Cross to respond to disasters large and small, to support military families, prevent emergencies and make sure that lifesaving blood is available for patients and accident victims.
I invite you to learn more about how you can help provide help and hope as a Red Cross volunteer. Please consider attending our informational meeting and brown bag lunch on June 1 in Houlton. It’s at St. Mary’s at noon. For those who cannot be there, please visit redcross.org/maine.
Red Cross volunteers embody the spirit of Aroostook County through their service to others. Come meet some of them on June 1 and see how you can further the humanitarian mission of the Red Cross. I look forward to seeing you.
