Parade, ceremony to mark Memorial Day

CARIBOU, Maine — Caribou will celebrate Memorial Day Monday, May 29, with its annual parade followed by a traditional ceremony at the Maine Veterans Cemetery.

Organized by the American Legion, VFW and the City of Caribou, the annual Memorial Day Parade will run from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, approximately. Lineup will start at the Caribou Courthouse at 9:30, with the parade beginning at 10 a.m. going along Sweden Street and up South Main, ending at the Veterans’ Memorial Park.

All groups are welcome to join the parade.

The Maine Veterans Cemetery program will begin at 1 p.m. at the 37 Lombard Rd. site, led by mistress of ceremonies Linda McGlinn. Brigadier General John Levasseur, U.S. Army (retired), will speak. Col. David Cote, U.S. Air Force (retired) will lead the invocation and benediction.

Heather Fullen, U.S. Air Force veteran, will sing the National Anthem and “God Bless America,” and the Legion Riders of Madawaska’s American Legion Post 147 will perform a 21-gun salute. Fred Ormezzani will play “Taps.”

Harry Hafford, Phil Bosse, Barbara Hayslett and Kim Rohn will also speak, and coffee and hot cocoa will be furnished by Virtual Managed Solutions of Caribou.
