PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Regional Career and Technology Center implemented a new career training program this year, and student Sarah Morneault found it fit her schedule to a T.
The PIRCTC offers an off-site work experience for students who cannot fit the mandatory Department of Education three-period technical education block into their schedules. Students are able to work as an “intern” at a local business that aligns with their desired program.
This year, Morneault really wanted to take drafting and design, but could not fit the third mandatory period into her class schedule. Instructor Terry Harper contacted Shane McDougall of Stantec in Caribou, who was was happy to have Morneault work with them and learn from his staff.
Morneault spent a school vacation break working at Stantec, which handles general aviation projects including airport upgrades, as well as offering flying lessons, skydiving and chartering.
Morneault said she enjoyed every minute of working for a company in her chosen career field.
