ARLENE GRACE (JOHNSON) HOWE LUDLOW – Arlene Grace (Johnson) Howe, 96, died May 17, 2017, in Houlton, with her family by her side. She was born March 21, 1921, in Houlton, the daughter of Frances (Dow) Johnson and Frank Johnson. She was a very loving mother and grandmother. Mom was an extremely hard worker her whole life and always kept the family up to date with family birthdays. She enjoyed canning and doing crossword puzzles. With only one eye, Arlene could do more than most people that had two. The last six and half years she resided in Madigan House where the residents and became her family. The family wishes to thank all the staff there for their excellent care.
She was raised in Houlton by her loving Dow family. She graduated from Houlton High School, Class of 1939. She married Stanley Howe in 1941 and together they raised their four children.
She is survived by her children, Forrest “Sonny” Howe and his wife, Joanne of New Limerick, Mary Goodall of Houlton, Sally Callnan and her husband, Tom of New Limerick; 14 grandchildren, Catherine, James, Judy, Vicky, Shane, Shawn, Melissa, Mandy, Jocelyn, Jarrod, Gary, Kenneth, Thomas and Anne; many great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Stanley; her twin brother, Cecil “Toby” Johnson; her sons, Richard and David; daughter, Constance; a grandson, Forrest Edward Howe IV; a son-in-law, Dwayne Goodall.
Friends called 12-1 p.m. on Monday, May 22nd at Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water Street, Houlton, where funeral services were held 1 p.m. with Rev. Steve Straubel officiating.
