PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Houlton and Greater Houlton Christian Academy track athletes had strong showings at a meet held at Presque Isle Middle School May 19.
“Several students stepped up and hit their personal bests in the championship atmosphere,” coach Chris Rines said. “Alyssa Abbotoni (400), Thomas Astle (100), Jeremy Cook (3200), Isabelle Cosby (200, 400), Hannah (Discus), Jacob (Discus, Javelin), Sarah Glatter (Shot Put), Zack Gonya (Shot put, Discus), Mackenzie (400), Daniel (Javelin), Dylan (Shot Put, Javelin), Lauren Swimm (200, and Rylee Warman (Discus) all had strong showings.”
Rines said the biggest surprise of the day came out of the 4×100 meter relay teams. The Houlton boys took first place overall and set a new school record in the process, while the girls 4×100 ended up second while also setting a new school record.
Students who have qualified for and are moving onto the Penobscot Valley Conference championship next Friday at Foxcroft Academy include Amelia Hanning, Mackenzie Hunt, Austin Brown, Thomas Astle, Isaiah Brown, Tim Glatter, and Hannah Foley. Also being considered are Alyssa Abbotoni, Dan McNally, Sarah Glatter, Jacob Forest, Dylan Swimm, and Rylee Warman.
