CROUSEVILLE, Maine – Richard C. Porter, 87, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, May 16, 2017, at The Aroostook Medical Center in Presque Isle after a period of declining health. He was born June 28, 1929, in Washburn, the son of Cecil and Musa (Crouse) Porter.
Richard was a graduate of Washburn High School, class of 1947, and graduated in 1951 from University of Maine where he was a member of the Phi Eta Kappa fraternity. He was a lifelong resident of Washburn. He served on the Town Council as a selectman from 1965-1995. Richard was a fourth generation farmer, served on the Agricultural Bargaining Council, and the Maine Potato Growers Board of Directors. He loved farming, loved to hunt and fish, enjoyed his camp in Northern Maine that he helped build, was an avid reader, a Red Sox fan, and enjoyed trips to the coast of Maine.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Barbara (DeCormier) Porter of Crouseville, his four children; Kathaleen of Needham, MA. Richard A. and his wife Vicky of Presque Isle, Gregory and his wife Eileen of Bangor, David and his wife Wendy of Holden. Grandchildren; Kristy, Matthew, Laura, Erin, Brian, Kathryn, and Rebecca. Great-grandchildren; Brandon, Hudson, Natalie, Avery, Emilia, and Maisy. He was predeceased by his parents, and a sister Druscilla Turner.
Friends called 2 p.m., Saturday, May 20, 2017, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church Street, Presque Isle, where funeral services were held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Sue Brown officiating.
