MARS HILL, Maine – Dalton M. Cronkhite, 82, passed away May 16, 2017, at Cary Medical Center. He had been a resident at Maine Veterans Home for three years. He was born Dec. 9, 1934, in Blaine, the son of Frederick D. and Kate Cronkhite.
Dalton served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War in the South Pacific. He worked many years in civil service at Loring AFB in Limestone. Dalton was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapper. He truly loved the outdoors.
He is survived by three sons, John Cronkhite and his wife, Patricia, of Presque Isle, and their children, Ben, Angel, Renee and Tori; Richard Lee Cronkhite of Mars Hill and his son, Joshua; and Frankie Cronkhite and his partner, Jeff Spencer, of Limerick; a daughter, Shelly (Cronkhite) Cooper and her husband, Ellis, of Morganton, N.C., and their daughter, Katelyn; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Mary Lou (Tapley) Cronkhite; a son, Dalton Jr.; a brother, Dawson Cronkhite; and two sisters, Pearl and Dot.
A graveside with military honors was held 2 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine, with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Online condolences may be shared at
