The Presque Isle baseball team picked up a point-worthy victory Thursday night, coming from behind to nip Houlton 4-3 in a game played at Presque Isle High School. The Wildcats were shut out after 5-1/2 innings but rallied for the win.
The Wildcats look to be solidly in the playoffs with their 7-6 record as they are in 10th place in Class B North. Houlton remains No. 1 in Class C and is now 11-2.
Among the games on the slate for Friday are: Wisdom at Washburn for a baseball doubleheader at 10 a.m., Central Aroostook baseball/softball at Shead at 3 p.m., LCS/MSSM softball at Madawaska at 4 p.m., and Fort Fairfield baseball/softball at Fort Kent at 4 p.m.
Saturday’s schedule sees Ashland in a baseball/softball doubleheader at Fort Kent at 10 a.m.; Hodgdon baseball/softball at Central Aroostook at 10 a.m.; Hermon baseball/softball doubleheader at Presque Isle at noon/2 p.m.; Caribou baseball/softball doubleheader at Mount Desert Island at noon/2 p.m.; Calais baseball/softball doubleheader at Houlton at noon/2 p.m.; Hodgdon baseball/softball at Central Aroostook, 10 a.m.; Madawaska at LCS/MSSM softball at 1 p.m.; and Katahdin baseball/softball at Bangor Christian for a doubleheader at 3/5p.m.
The tennis singles tournament will be played at The Tennis Racket indoor facility in Portland today and continue at Colby College in Waterville Saturday. The semifinals and finals take place at Bates College in Lewiston Monday. The Penobscot Valley Conference doubles championships are at Mattanawcook Academy in Lincoln Saturday.
Track for PVC small schools was scheduled to compete in the Penobscot Valley Championships on Friday, but that event has been moved to Monday, at 1 p.m. at Foxcroft Academy. The PVC large school meet is at MDI Saturday.

Baseball
Presque Isle 4, Houlton 3 — At Presque Isle Thursday, the Wildcats scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to come from three runs back and nip the No. 1 team in Class C North.
PI capitalized on a hit by pitch, a walk and an error during the comeback. Jonah Hudson, Nick Bartlett, Connor DeMerchant and Dakota Morrow all had singles for the Wildcats. DeMerchant, a freshman, picked up the pitching win in relief of Jonah Hudson and R.J. Gross.
Cameron Graham pitched well in the loss, allowing just the four hits. Nick Botting, Keegan Gentle and Ryder Graham had two hits each for the Shires.
Katahdin 7, Schenck 6 — At Stacyville Thursday, the Cougars (10-1) rallied for three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Schenck (3-10). Freshman Dawson McKinney scored the game-winning run for Katahdin.
Cooper Drew, Brody Guiggey and Blake Howes all shared pitching duties for the Cougars and combined to allow six runs on four hits and eight walks, with 11 strikeouts.
John McNally doubled for Katahdin, while Rig Otero, and Drew each had a single.
Southern Aroostook 17, Ashland 6 — At Ashland Thursday, Hunter Walker and winning pitcher Nolan Altvater had three hits each as the Warriors improved to 6-5.
Lucas Craig doubled and Steven Bellanceau and Graham Berry both singled for the 6-5 Hornets.
Softball
Houlton 10, Presque Isle 6 — Mikayla Fitzpatrick went the distance in the circle for the Shires and Emma Peterson had two hits and scored three times in Thursday’s victory at Presque Isle.
Savannah Rodriguez doubled and singled and Sydney Thompson contributed a pair of singles for the Wildcats.
Houlton is now 8-5 and in fifth place in Class C, while Presque Isle is 6-7 and in 11th in Class B.
Southern Aroostook 7, Ashland 1 — At Ashland Thursday, Kylie Vining struck out 14 batters and allowed just two hits as the Warriors took over first place in Class D North and improved to 9-2 on the season.
Taylor Libby had a two-run double and Vining helped her own cause by singling twice for SA. Olivia Tardie and Cassidy Pelletier provided the hits for the Hornets, who dropped to 4-6.
