Koch defends national track title

WASHBURN, Maine — Another national meet, another title for Washburn’s Carsyn Koch.

The junior from Cedarville University in Ohio captured the 800-meter title at the NCAA Division II Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships, according to a news release from the school. Koch finished Saturday’s race, held at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida,, in 2 minutes and 5.21 seconds.

“It was a good race. I just went out there to go right to the front to make sure I got a good split at the 400,” Koch said in the release. “It was a little slow, but it was what I needed to get through the next 400 and finish strong.

“It feels good to get one more title and to have my coach hand me the trophy,” Koch added.

She has dominated the outdoor 800-meter race during her career. She possesses four of the top six times in Division II history, including a best of 2:02.39.

She was the 2016 champion in the event and also has claimed national titles in the last two indoor 800-meter runs.

Koch was an elite athlete while attending Washburn District High School from 2010-2014. She won many individual state titles in cross country and track and field and also multiple team titles as a member of the Beavers’ soccer and basketball teams.

She is the daughter of Peter and Liane Koch of Washburn.
