The Fort Fairfield Tigers’ baseball team is one win away from completing a perfect season after they nipped Fort Kent Tuesday, 3-1. The Tigers play at Washburn Wednesday afternoon in their attempt to go 14-0. Fort Fairfield still has a chance for the No. 1 seed in Class D North. The Tigers are currently second, but just three points behind Katahdin, who have completed their schedule.
The Central Aroostook baseball and softball teams have a full day planned on Wednesday. The Panther squads make the trip to Danforth in a neutral site game against Shead of Eastport at 11 a.m. and then turn around and host Ashland at 4 p.m.
The rest of Wednesday’s schedule has Presque Isle baseball and softball at Caribou at 1 p.m., Fort Fairfield baseball and softball at Washburn at 4 p.m., LCS/MSSM baseball and softball at Fort Kent at 4 p.m. and Lee Academy baseball and softball at Houlton, 4 p.m.

Baseball
Hodgdon 3, Limestone-MSSM 2 — At Hodgdon, Wyatt Foster pitched a one-hitter with a whopping 14 strikeouts to lead the Hawks (11-4) to victory. Foster also singled and stole a base. Ben Tuttle added two singles an RBI and a run scored, while Dillan Buzzell also added an RBI single for Hodgdon.
For Limestone (6-8), James Hawkes recorded a single while Matt Pelkey and Mason Patten scored for the Eagles.
Southern Aroostook 16, Woodland 11 — Gavin Vining collected three singles to pace Southern Aroostook (8-5) to the road victory. Nate Lilley doubled and singled for the Warriors.
For Woodland (9-3), Justin Monk had a double and 2 singles Mason Spear a triple and a single.
Fort Fairfield 3, Fort Kent 1 — The Tigers were given their toughest test of the season at Fort Kent, but still managed to win for the 13th time this season without a loss. The Tigers trailed after three innings, but tied the game on a Ryan Player sacrifice fly in the fourth and took the lead on Jared Harvey’s two-run single in the sixth. Carter Bruce got the win on the mound. The Warriors dropped to 8-7.
Penobscot Valley 10, Katahdin 7 — PVHS’ Jaeden Foster tossed a complete game as the Howlers (9-5) upset Katahdin (10-4) at Stacyville. Foster yielded seven runs on nine hits and five walks, with eight strikeouts.
For Katahdin, Dalton Hartt pitched six strong innings, scattering six runs (4 earned) on four hits and five walks, with seven strikeouts. Blake Howes came on in relief, yielding four runs on four hits and two walks, with one strikeout.
Brody Guiggey, Rig Otero and Caleb Giles each had two singles for Katahdin. Cooper Drew added a double.
Softball
Fort Kent 11, Fort Fairfield 8 — The Warriors got past the Tigers on the strength of Lea Pelletier’s bat. She tripled, singled twice and drove in three runs as Fort Kent improved to 3-10.
Cassidy Coiley had a two-run single for Fort Fairfield, also 3-10.
Madawaska 14, Washburn 2 — Jenna Dugal homered and singled twice, picking up two RBIs, as the Owls won game one of a doubleheader at Madawaska. Lexi Carney, Sam Churchill and Rachel Driscoll all singled for the Beavers.
Madawaska 16, Washburn 2 — Dugal allowed two hits during her five-inning stint and had another big day at the plate as the Owls (9-5) completed the sweep. Dugal homered and tripled and Emily Boucher had three hits and three RBIs. Kassie Farley and Driscoll both singled for the Beavers, who fell to 1-12.
Penobscot Valley 13, Katahdin 0 — The Cougars ended their season facing a pitching buzz-saw as PVHS’ Leine McKechnie twirled a perfect game. McKechnie struck out 17 and did not allow a hit or walk.
McKechnie also contributed a two-run single and her sister Kortney McKechnie had two doubles and a single. Erynn Williams singled and doubled for Penobscot Valley (16-0) of Howland.
For the Cougars (4-10), Lilley Cullen scattered 13 runs on 14 hits and 10 walks with four strikeouts.
