PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The Maine Pain Initiative will present Pain Management at the End of Life at the University of Maine at Presque Isle on April 25. This event will feature five plenary sessions covering end-of-life pain management issues in all ages, from pediatric through geriatric, and in various settings including long-term-care facilities as well as in-home care. There will also be presentations on ethics, quality and access issues.
This symposium is intended for professional and non-professional health care providers and has been approved for continuing education credits. The MPI brings this educational opportunity to Presque Isle to address an identified need for health care education in rural Maine.
The Maine Pain Initiative (MPI) has been active since 1993. Originally formed as the Maine Cancer Pain Initiative, the MPI has provided education for health care professionals and individuals living with pain, developed and published pain assessment tools as well as educational materials. The MPI also provides advocacy for health care professionals, patients and families, and the public; and conducts research regarding pain management issues in Maine. The MPI is a committee of the Maine Hospice Council and Center for End-of-Life Care.
