Spring came early for Aroostook County’s baseball teams, and after several outdoor workouts teams finally took to the field for regular season action beginning last week. Summaries of games played through Monday are as follows:

Presque Isle 4, Old Town 3 – On Saturday in Old Town, the Wildcats had a successful season-opener thanks to a two-out RBI single off the bat of sophomore Wilder York in the top of the eighth inning which broke a 3-3 deadlock.
York had three hits in the contest, while Brennen Shaw and Dillon Kingsbury both had doubles and Matt Chasse recorded a run-scoring single earlier in the game. PI outhit the Coyotes, 10-5, but the Wildcats committed three errors to allow Old Town to stay close. Shaw was the winning pitcher, coming on in the sixth inning after Chasse went the first five.
Old Town 7, Presque Isle 6 – The Coyotes turned the tables in game two, as Gabe Melmed hit an RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to deliver the winning run.
Isaac LaJoie and Chasse both had RBI doubles and Steven Ford and Ethan Braley had run-scoring singles for PI. Kingsbury started on the mound, with Braley and Shaw both pitching in relief. The Wildcats scored all six of their runs in the top of the fifth inning and took a one-run lead before Old Town scored a single run in sixth to tie the game and set up Melmed’s heroics.
Katahdin 14, Fort Fairfield 5 – At Stacyville Monday, the Cougars were too much for the visiting Tigers in the respective openers for both squads. Brady McNally had three hits and four RBI and Colby Gallagher blasted a home run as Katahdin came out on top.
Fort Fairfield committed seven errors in the game. Austin Bernier hit a two-run double and Landon Keizer added an RBI single for the Tigers, who led 5-4 entering the bottom of the fourth before the Cougars took over.
