Mars Hill, Maine — On May 12 of this year, Fort Street Elementary School in Mars Hill celebrated their 5th annual Bikes for Books Award Assembly.
A total of 20 new bikes and helmets were awarded to winners in grades Pre-K — 6. 137 students participated in this year’s program, with over 1010 entries. The program is sponsored by the Masons of Aroostook Lodge #197 in Mars Hill, with donations from many businesses in the area. Bikes for Books is a reading incentive program statewide, encouraging students to read more and improve their reading skills. It is promoted by the Grand Lodge of Maine and supported by many lodges across the state.
