Scholarship awarded for SACS seniors top $68,000

DYER BROOK, Maine — Southern Aroostook Community High School Seniors received scholarship awards as listed below at their graduation ceremony held on Friday, June 16, at SACS.

Principal Jon Porter presented the following awards:

The Tyler Grand Maison MELMAC Scholarship in the amount of $2,000 and renewable for up to four years was presented to Tyler Batchelder. He also received an anonymous scholarship in the amount of $1,000.

Jackson Mathers received the Ricker Scholarship for $1,500, renewable for four years and the Thomas College Dirigo Award for $2,500, also renewable for four years.

The 2016 Mitchell Scholar, Mariah Lane, presented the 2017 Mitchell Scholarship to Mathers. This scholarship has a renewable value of up to $9,000.

Principal Porter presented the Aroostook Principals’ Association Scholarship of $400 to Nolan Altvater.

Guidance Counselor, Jessica Walker presented the following awards: Bridge Year Scholarships to Lacey Lindsay, Devyn Legassey and Luis Morales. These scholarships are renewable and have a $6,000 annual benefit to each student.

The Louisiana Pacific Scholarship went to Tyler Batchelder for $1,500 and is renewable for four years; Katahdin Federal Credit Union Scholarships for $300 each were presented to: Tyler Batchelder, Legassey and Morales.

The Katahdin Federal Credit Union also honored graduate Nathaniel Lilley with a $250 gift card for his commitment to serving in the U.S. Army; Lilley received a standing ovation from the audience.

Katahdin Valley Health Center Scholarships in the amount of $250 each were presented to: Austin Bishop, Marissa Boulier and Makayla Crandall.

The Bruce Crandall Memorial Scholarship for $250 was presented to Taylor Libby; Emma V. Milliken Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $200 was presented to Lacey Lindsay; two scholarships in memory of Peter Cullinan Sr. for $300 each were presented to Tyler Batchelder and to Lacey Lindsay.

The Sherman Alumni Scholarship went to Mathers in the amount of $300; Ruth Frazier present a $100 scholarship in Memory of Zachary Bearor to Riley Robinson; Holly Vining presented the Tri-State Asbo Scholarship for $500 to Mathers.

The Jarrica Rose Emery Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 was presented by Emery’s mother, Cindy, to Katelyn Stevens; Crystal Briggs Folsom presented a $200 scholarship in memory of her dad, Arthur Briggs, to Mathers; Meagan Brooks presented a $300 scholarship in memory of her uncle, Kenny Swallow, Jr. to Clay MacArthur.

Island Falls High School Alumnus, Rebecca Drew presented six scholarships ($300 each) to SACS seniors with ties to alumnus of Island Falls High School. The awards went to Tanor Batchelder, Tyler Batchelder, Austin Bishop, Lindsay, Mathers and MacArthur.

Drew also presented a $500 scholarship in Memory of David Ryan to Austin Bishop.

The Katahdin Club Scholarship was presented by Rachel Daniels to Clay MacArthur for $200.

Diana Rockwell presented a $50 scholarship to Hunter Lawlor in memory of long-time SACS bus driver, Judy Cameron.

The Dollars for Scholars scholarships were presented as follows by Principal Jonathan Porter to the Class of 2017 for a total amount of $26,250.

Katrina Altmannsberger: The Maryann Sprague Edwards Memorial Scholarship for $100, Southern Aroostook Education Trust Scholarship for $500, Dollars for Scholars Scholarship for $1,150 and The Island Falls Lakes Assoc. Scholarship for $500.

Nolan Altvater: The Jacob Shur Memorial Scholarship for $200.

Tanor Batchelder: Oakfield Alumni Scholarship for $250.

Tyler Batchelder: Ted Friel Memorial Scholarship for $100, Houlton Rotary Scholarship for $250, Oakfield Alumni Scholarship for $250, Southern Aroostook Educational Trust Scholarship for $500, Southern Aroostook Trappers Assoc. Scholarship for $100 and Dollars for Scholars Scholarship for $1,150. Tyler also received the Kevin Hunt Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500.

Austin Bishop: Jerry’s Shurfine Scholarship for $300 and Dollars for Scholars Scholarship for $700.

Marissa Boulier: Houlton Rotary Scholarship for $250, Southern Aroostook Educational Trust

Scholarship for $500, York’s of Houlton Scholarship for $250 and Dollars for Scholars Scholarship for $1,150.

Makayla Crandall: Bev Clark Memorial Scholarship for $100, Katahdin Cedar Log Homes Scholarship for $400, S. H. Nevers Scholarship for $100, Oakfield Alumni Scholarship for $250 and Dollars for Scholars Scholarship for $100.

Hunter Lawlor: Charlotte Benn McDonald scholarship for $200, Billy Lawlor & Jeannette Harvey Memorial Scholarship for $200, S. H. Nevers Scholarship for $100, Oakfield Alumni Scholarship for $500, Martha A. Powers Trust Memorial for $250 and Dollars for Scholars Scholarship for $700.

Devyn Legassey: Edwards Family Memorial Scholarship for $100, Houlton Regional Hospital Medical Staff Scholarship for $250 and Dollars for Scholars Scholarship for $700.

Taylor Libby: Oakfield Alumni Scholarship for $250 and Oakfield Thriftway Scholarship for $100.
