MAINE — Subway Sandwich Shops throughout Maine are building up to Veterans’ Day in a big way. From July 1st through October, sandwich artists will ask customers to donate a dollar when ordering their sandwiches.
Last year, Subway raised $48,610 in Maine to support the state’s military and their families. This year they hope to raise $50,000. For a limited time, a coupon for $1 off will be given when donating a dollar.
“At Subway our franchisees are passionate about giving back to our communities, especially to those who sacrifice so much to keep all of us safe,” said Loren Goodridge, Subway Franchisee and Maine Development Agent. “Last year we were overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers in Maine for Easterseals. We hope to expand that support for post-9/11 vets this year.”
Easter Seals’ Military and Veterans services provides critical and timely financial assistance and services when no other resource is available to veterans, service members and their families. The program also works to ensure dignity, health and overall well-being for veterans. All the money raised will remain in Maine.
“This assistance couldn’t come at a more critical time,” said Jeremy Kendall, director of Military and Veterans Services at Easter Seals Maine. “Recently we’ve seen our need nearly double and we never want to have to turn a veteran away. Because of the generosity of Subway and its customers, this program will be able to provide essential services for our local veterans, whether they are 25 or 85.”
Subway will present a check in honor of Veterans’ Day this fall.
