WASHBURN, Maine — Washburn District High School’s spring athletes were recognized during the annual assembly held June 16. Athletic Director Ron Ericson welcomed the parents and congratulated the athletes.
In a special presentation, the Beaver baseball team was recognized for being selected the Class D North Sportsmanship winner by the Maine Principals’ Association.
Macey Barker, Samantha White, Sydney Chavez, Mollie Clark and Rachel Driscoll all received jackets.
Mollie Clark and Caleb Thompson both were given plaques for earning four varsity letters during the year, while Maggie Castonguay, Kassie Farley and Sydney Chavez received plaques for earning five varsity letters.
Coach Debbie Whittier presented certificates to members of the girls’ volleyball team. Members were Carly Bragg, Macey Barker, Kassie Farley, Skylar Mette, Hannah Killcollins, Jillian Mandeville, Jacquillen West, Kristen Sarmiento, Makenzie Vaughn, Mollie Clark and Maggie Castonguay. Receiving trophies as the team’s co-MVPs were Bragg and Barker.
Coach Ben Goodwin presented awards to members of the boys’ volleyball team. Quintin Thompson, McCall Turner, Bryce Roix, Cameron Hartford, Jovanni Taveras, Steven Nader, Zakkary Tracy, Colby Hewitt, and Noah White all received certificates. Bryce Roix won the Coach’s Award and McCall Turner was the Most Valuable Player.
Coach Kolbie Churchill presented awards to members of the track team. Eddie McLaughlin, Devon Maynard, Samantha Churchill, Kassandra Farley, Rachel Thurston, Samantha Churchill, Maggie Castonguay and manager Sydney Chavez all received pins and certificates. Maynard received a three-year letter plaque. Castonguay was named Outstanding Female Track Athlete and Maynard took home the Outstanding Male Track Athlete award.
Coach Paul Carter presented awards to members of the softball team. Bragg received a letter and Amber Dubois, Maggie Castonguay, Kassie Farley, Samantha Churchill, Macey Barker, Julia Dahlgren, Jacquillen West, Kristen Sarmiento, Alexi Carney, Bobbi Campbell, Sydney Chavez, Mollie Clark, Kristen Dube, Hannah Killcollins, Skylar Mette and managers Kaitlyn Maynard, Jessica Vaillincourt and Mariah Davis all were given certificates and pins. Macey Barker earned a three-year letter plaque. Kassie Farley and Carly Bragg were named All-Aroostook. The Most Improved Player was Jacquillen West. Coach’s Awards went to Rachel Driscoll, Carly Bragg and Kassandra Farley.

McCall Turner, Bryce Roix, Caleb Thompson, Braedon Campbell, Steven Nader, Carver Pendexter, Noah White, Colby Hewitt, Aiden Churchill and Joshua Jackson were presented pins and certificates. Caleb Thompson garnered a three-year letter plaque. McCall Turner gained All-Aroostook recognition. The Most Improved Player award went to Colby Hewitt, the Coach’s Award to Bryce Roix and the Most Valuable Player Award to McCall Turner.
