Mapleton Methodist Mother-Daughter Banquet
The Mapleton United Methodist reports a delightful Mapleton Mother and Daughter Banquet was held at the church on May 20. There approximately 50 individuals in attendance to enjoy the potluck lunch that everyone helped provide. There was special entertainment provided by two Little Misses and one Teen Miss .
Pre-Teen, Miss Fort Fairfield for 2017, Audrey Milliard, the daughter of William Milliard and Heather Winslow, granddaughter of Dawn and Lyle Kenny, sang “Try Everything” from the movie “Zootopia”. Little Miss Mapleton, Emily Hallett, daughter of Chris and Audrea Hallett sang the song “Carrie Sue” with added actions. Closing the show was Teen Miss Mapleton Elizabeth Collins, daughter of Devin and Michelle Collins dancing to “Fix You”. As a thank you for their coming and performing, the young ladies were each given quilted purse.
Girl Scouts Conclude Year
Mapleton Girl Scout Troop 1133 and 187 gathered at the Mapleton United Methodist Church on Friday, June 16 for their end-of-the-year awards ceremony. Jennifer Buzza, co-leader for Troop 1133, introduced the girls in each troop, followed by everyone reciting The Pledge of Allegiance. All Scouts in attendance recited the Girl Scout Promise and girls in Troop 187 presented the 10 Girl Scout Laws in a candlelight ceremony.
Troop 1133 co-leaders, Jennifer Buzza, Nancy Winslow and Laurie Amero presented their five girls with awards earned since their last ceremony in November. The girls received awards for their troop Christmas party, ice skating, cookie rally, cookie activity pin, scrapbooking, 100 years of selling Girl Scout cookies, self-defense class, pinewood derby, ‘froze my cookies off’ for sorting cookies, cookie participation, selling 100 boxes of cookies or more, cookie booth sale, community flower garden, escape room, Cadette “New Cuisines” badge and each earned a membership star and disc for completing one more year as a Girl Scout. Maddie Buzza was recognized for being the troop’s top cookie seller for selling 569 boxes. The troop sold 1,524 boxes combined during phase one of the sale. Members of Troop 1133 include Cadettes: Bethany Baker, Maddie Buzza, Alexis Getchell and Amanda Winslow and Senior Scout Katelyn Amero.
On behalf of the Sapphire Service Unit, Jennifer Buzza also presented awards to two mothers of Troop 1133. Tammy Getchell was recognized with her 10-year service pin and 15 years of membership pin and Laurie Amero also received her 15 years of membership pin.
Troop 187 co-leaders, Amanda Robinson, Lisa Dean, Marcia Cogswell and Holly Vigue presented their troop of nineteen girls with their awards as well. Their Daisies earned Money Counts and Making Choices, Brownes earned their Money Management and Community badges and Juniors earned their Social Butterfly and Garden badges. All troop members earned their Christmas parade, cookie activity pins and badges, sledding, nursing home visit, caring for the community, ‘froze my cookies off’ and pinewood derby patches.
Individual girls from Troop 187 earned their Outdoor Skills Level 1 badge, including: Maude Drew, Addyson Haley, Hailey Himes, Hattie Cogswell and Rylan Sturtevant. Also recognized for earning their Service from the Heart badge were Lilly Dean, Shelby Robinson and Bobbie Guerrette.
Troop 187 co-leader, Amanda Robinson, thanked her co-leaders and presented each with a volunteer pin and also recognized one father for volunteering to go above and beyond to benefit the troop and the girls. Troop dad, Mike Brazier, was presented with a Girl Scout Dad t-shirt, then proudly posed with the girls after the ceremony for a group picture.
Members of Troop 187 include Daisies: Maggie Brazier, Lilly Dean, Maude Drew, Madison McCartney, Mikayla Michaud and Mackenzie Vigue. Brownies are Madison Brazier, Hattie Cogswell, Olive Gregg, Addyson Haley, Hailey Himes, Kobee Jordan, Shelby Robinson and Mylee Waugh. Juniors are Bobbi Guerrette, Neve Guerrette, Olivia Locke, JoLea Robinson and Rylan Sturtevant.
Troop 1133 bridged all four of their Cadettes to the level of Senior Scout during the ceremony. In order to complete the requirements to bridge, the Cadettes finished the ‘Pass It On’ step by teaching younger Scouts about the annual cookie sale at the Sapphire Service Unit’s cookie rally in January. During the ceremony, each Cadette completed their final step by sharing a few of their favorite memories from their three years as a Cadette. (All mentioned the amazing troop trip to Disney World last September!) The girls selected and individually presented their photos and thoughts during a power point presentation that was created by Senior Scout, Katelyn Amero. After the presentation, each of the Cadettes took part in the formal ceremony, greeting leaders, Nancy Winslow, Laurie Amero and fellow Senior, Katelyn Amero, on the other side of the “bridge” and received their bridging awards.
Troop 187 Brownies Hattie Cogswell and Hailey Himes performed a skit to “Bake a Batch of Brownies” and bridged Daisies, Lilly Dean and Mikayla Michaud to Brownies. Brownies, Madison Brazier, Hattie Cogswell, Addyson Haley and Hailey Himes all bridged to Juniors. Also bridging but not in attendance were Daisy Maude Drew bridging to Brownies and Brownie Mylee Waugh bridging to Juniors. The evening concluded with families and friends enjoying cake and ice cream in the fellowship hall.
