Guerrette nominated for conference award

BANGOR, MaineChandler Guerrette of Presque Isle has been named Husson University’s nominee for the 2017 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Woman of the Year award.  

Nine female student-athletes are up for the prestigious award, which encompasses all facets of the NCAA Division III student-athlete experience.

The NAC Woman of the Year award is modeled after the NCAA’s Woman of the Year program, which honors graduating student-athletes who have distinguished themselves throughout their collegiate careers in the areas of academic achievement, athletic excellence, service and leadership.

Both the NAC Man and Woman of the Year award winners will be announced later this month and will be honored on their campuses during the 2017-18 academic year.

Guerrette was a standout on the Husson University women’s basketball team, serving as a captain her senior season. She is a two-time NAC Defensive Player of the Year and was named NAC Player of the Year, while also being tabbed Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) DIII New England Women’s Basketball Player of the Year.

She was selected as a NAC All-Conference and a Maine Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (MWBCA) All-State player. Guerrette claimed the Husson University Women’s Basketball Eagle Award, is third all-time in the Eagles’ 1,000 point club and is the state of Maine 2016 and 2017 steals leader.

Guerrette majored in healthcare studies and is currently enrolled in an occupational therapy graduate program. She served as a student tutor and as a substitute teacher/ed tech, while volunteering as a basketball camp coach and as a “The Life You Can Save” social media ambassador.

Guerrette is a 2013 graduate of Presque Isle High School, where she helped lead the Wildcats to two Class B state championships in basketball and was named All-State her senior year. She was also a standout soccer player at PIHS.
