Massachusetts State Police arrested a Patten, Maine, man on Friday night and charged him with trafficking in heroin.
At about 8:37 p.m., Trooper Nicholas D’Angelo stopped a Buick Roadmaster that was headed east on Route 20 just before the Old Worcester Road in the town of Charlton.
When the registration plates did not match the vehicle, D’Angelo investigated further and reported finding 410 bags of suspected heroin and 1 bag of suspected crack cocaine.
The driver and sole occupant of the car was identified as Steven H. Pearl, 36 of Patten, Maine. Pearl was arrested and brought to the Sturbridge barracks for booking.
He was charged with trafficking in heroin, possession of cocaine, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, driving an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, and attaching plates.
Pearl was held on $2,000 bail, pending his arraignment on Monday in Dudley District Court.
