Presque Isle boys lose in semis

PRESQUE ISLE — By all accounts, it was a successful season for the Presque Isle boys tennis team, as the Wildcats finished second in the Eastern Class B standings with an 11-1 regular season record and were 12-2 overall. The Wildcats advanced to the Eastern Class B semifinals Monday, but were unable to come away with a victory, falling 3-2 to No. 3 Camden Hills (12-2).
Although the match was supposed to be played in Presque Isle, it was moved indoors to the Bangor tennis courts due to the threat of rain. The individual results, with Wildcats listed first, in singles, Caleb Mathers beat Will Vaullen, 6-0, 6-2; Connor Shaw lost to Pierre Hanington, 6-3, 0-6, 0-6; and Mike Picard lost to Casey Scott, 6-7, 5-7 (2-6 in tiebreaker).
In doubles, Kyle Gilson and Emerson Mendieta-Castro lost to John Vannorseal and Evan Drinkwater, 2-6, 3-6; and Osmand Mendieta-Castro and Brock Cassidy defeated Andrew Beauchesne and Robin Cassidy, 7-6, 7-3 (6-3 in tiebreaker).
Presque Isle 4, Old Town 1 — At Presque Isle Friday, in the quarterfinals, the individual results, with Wildcats listed first, were: in singles, Mathers beat John McCullough, 6-0, 6-1; Shaw bested Zak Madden, 6-1, 6-1; and Cawley lost to Matt Richard, 1-6, 2-6.
In doubles, Gilson and E. Mendieta-Castro beat Chris Gilman and Cam Washington, 6-1, 6-0; and O. Mendieta-Castro and Cassidy bested Nate Ouellette and Ben Smith by a score of 6-0, 6-1.
