PRESQUE ISLE – Kenneth C. Petress, 70, passed away May 21, 2010, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born November 1, 1939, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Charles and Margaret (French) Petress.
Kenneth served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Kenneth dedicated his life to learning and teaching others. He earned a Bachelor of Science in education in 1977, and a Master of Arts with a major in Communication in 1979 from Northern Illinois University. He also received his Doctor of Philosophy from Louisiana State University in 1988. Kenneth began his teaching career as an instructor in the computer science department for Bryant & Stratton College from 1965 until 1968 as well as CBS Holt Schools from 1969 until 1971. Kenneth taught at many other different levels and also taught in the Peoples Republic of China on many occasions. He finished his career as a professor in the English and Fine Arts Department at the University of Maine in Presque Isle. At times, Kenneth was also called into administrative positions such as being the assistant director of the computer science department for CBS Holt Schools, Teleprocessing Supervisor of the computer science Department for Northern Illinois University, coordinator of the Communication and Literature as well as Science Department for U.M.P.I. He also conducted several workshops and spoke at various seminars related to his field. He was a well respected educator and will be missed by both his co-workers and students.
