Teague students send gifts to brighten hospital stays

CARIBOU, Maine — Teague Park School’s third-grade Student Council members raised money this year by collecting bottles from the school and community, and put the funds to good use to benefit young patients at Cary Medical Center.

After the students raised just over $50, they brainstormed a list of ideas, explained Rachel Bourgeois, teacher and Student Council adviser, and voted to give to Cary because a member of the student council has a sibling who has medical needs and therefore has to be in the hospital often.

“They wanted to help other young children who have to be in the hospital for their own treatment or for a sibling’s treatment, and once they voted, we contacted the pediatric wing and found out what they could use,” said Bourgeois.

“We went shopping, and purchased things like coloring books and colors and stuffed animals, and then the students tied a note to each of the gifts.”

The students visited Cary to drop their gifts off in person.

“It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to give back to our community and we want to thank everyone at Cary for working with us to make it happen,” Bourgeois added.
