CARIBOU, Maine — The Caribou Public Library Archives and Special Collections contain numerous unidentified photographs of WWI military personnel. Many of these pictures are what we call “orphaned.”
Many donors drop off an old family photo without identifying who the person is.
This week we have photograph of a young man wearing a “dough boy” uniform, a term used for a member of the U. S. Army during WWI. He is also wearing an overseas cap. Caribou Public Library Director Anastasia Weigle believes this soldier is a corporal based on the two chevron stripes on his sleeve, and the one chevron stripe above may be a discharged stripe.
If you recognize this person, please contact Weigle at (207) 493-4214 or email librarydirector@cariboumaine.org.
