GERALDINE JENNIE (SHERWOOD) WHITE, HOULTON – Geraldine Jennie (Sherwood) White, age 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 2, 2017, with her family at her side.
Gerry was born in Bancroft, ME, on December 27, 1929, the daughter of Frank and Florence (Gray) Sherwood. She grew up in Danforth on a dairy farm and attended Danforth schools graduating as Valedictorian of the Class of 1947.
She married Frederick “Erle” White in June 1951, which was the beginning of a long and loving relationship. They moved to Houlton and raised five children together.
Besides being a full time wife and mother, she worked at the Madigan Memorial Hospital and in later years she worked in the Houlton School system as a Librarian at Bowdoin Street School. In 1978, they moved to Winthrop, ME, where she worked for New England Telephone until she retired in 1981 when they moved back to their home in Houlton.
She was a member of the Court Street Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years and was involved with the Baptist Youth Fellowship. She was the Houlton High School band secretary for years.
She is survived by four of her children, Russell and his wife Amber of Winthrop, ME; Marion and her husband Mac McLaughlin of Sidney, ME; Roger and his wife Cindy of Belgrade, ME; Ellen and her husband Jim Curtiss of New Sharon, ME; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband, Erle; her daughter, Maxine; and her grandson, Ryan McLaughlin.
