E. PLANTATION, Maine – Stanley A. “Bump” Tilley, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017, at his residence. Stan was born December 30, 1949, in Mars Hill, the son of Percy and Avis (Upton) Tilley Jr.
He grew up in Bridgewater and attended Bridgewater schools, and then graduated from the Central Aroostook High School in 1967. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969, and served in Vietnam. Upon his discharge he worked for many area car dealerships and opened his own garage which he owned and operated for many years until his retirement. On April 9, 1968, he married Deborah Rideout and together they would raise their two sons, Cory and Travis. Stan was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, trapping, but his grandkids brought him so much joy and he treasured the time he had with them. He will be remembered as being family orientated, caring, and devoted to his family.
He is survived by his wife of almost fifty years, Deborah Tilley, two sons, Cory Tilley and Travis Tilley and his wife, Melissa; seven grandchildren, Bryan Stitham, Kailyn Stitham, Taia Tilley, Devin Tilley, Alyssa Tilley, Keegan Tilley, Skylynn Tilley; three great-grandchildren, Layla McClay, Bellah Stitham, and Cecilia Stitham. He also leaves behind three siblings, Connie Hagan, Carla McKeen and her husband, Kevin, Cathy Hogan; his mother-in-law, Juanita Rideout; two brothers-in-law, Richard Rideout and his wife, Betty, Duane Rideout; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Stan was predeceased by a brother, Steve Tilley; and his father-in-law, Clair Rideout.
Friends may call 6-8pm Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Duncan Funeral Home, 8 Main St., Mars Hill. Funeral services will be conducted 1pm Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Carter officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to a time of refreshment at their home following the service. A private committal with military honors will take place at a later date at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine.
